Personalized Learning
When I first began teaching, I fell into the same patterns by which I was once taught: lecture and a one-size-fits-all approach to learning. While some students thrived in this environment, I soon realized that many were left behind. Each student came with their own unique needs, passions, and previous knowledge and skill. Often all of this is neglected in the classroom and decisions about instruction are based on the perception of the teacher. However, for true growth and maximizing student learning in my classroom, I began transitioning to personalizing the instruction, content, feedback, and means of expressing learning.
While in the MAET program, I began shifting my classroom practice from teacher-centered to student-centered. I began spending more 1:1 time with students and redesigning my lessons.
This video summarizes my approach to the wicked problem of Personalized Learning.
